Friday, April 25, 2008
Dairatul Nailul Hudaa (DNH), recently held its annual Islamic conference at the 22nd July Square in Banjul. The ceremony was graced by Alh Babacarr Mbye Ngerane Mbengue Diaraf De Yoff, Senegal, as well as senior government officials in The Gambia and Senegal.

The theme for this year’s conference was “Tariqah Tijania in Islam”.

Speaking to the Daily Observer at the conference ground, Alh Jawara Gaye, president of DNH, said that DNH was a religious organisation (Daira) in the Tariqah faith of Al-Tijania, under the  leadership of Alh Serign Sait Omar Kebbeh. Mr Gaye added that Alh Serign Sait Omar Kebbeh, is the spiritual leader of all the followers of their “Daira” and that his own spiritual leader was  Imam Kalai Barry of Senegal.

According to Jawara Gaye, Serign Sait Kebbeh has been giving out the “Tariqha of Tijania”  for over a decade, adding that the association was gaining momentum in The Gambia.

He disclosed that the conference was first held at the Buffer Zone but due to the large crowd, they decided to move it to Banjul, at  the 22nd July Square.

“The basic significance of the conference of tariqha in Islam is that those who know the Quran say that Allah said “you need to know me before you worship me”, he quoted.

“So I expect that people would listen and compare what Serign Sait Kebbeh is saying to what is understood from the Sunnah of the Prophet and the Quran”, he concluded.

For his part, Baboucarr Mbye Njie, secretary of DNH, said that  Tariqha  is meant to help people remember and always have faith in Allah. He called on others to join the Tariqha as it would help them know Allah and also to know themselves as  Muslims.
