Wednesday, March 5, 2008
The two suspects involved in the Gambia Revenue Authority theft case were yesterday sentenced to six and seven months imprisonment by senior magistrate Kayode Olajubutu of Banjul Magistrates Court.

Paul Patrick Gomez, an employee of the Gambia Revenue Authority and Kawsu Bojang of Lamin Village, were standing trial for stealing 11 books of income tax clearance for 2008, valued at D50,000 and for receiving stolen property, contrary to Sections 258 and 297 of Criminal Code. Both men pleaded guilty to the charges.

In handing down his judgment, Magistrate Kayode said although the accused persons are first offenders, they should not be excused from punishment.

The magistrate ordered that the receipt books be returned to GRA with immediate effect.
