The annual inter-departmental football competition that is solely organised by the National Inter-departmental Sport Association (NISA), is scheduled to commence in April, Observer Sports has gathered.
The executive committee of the association met on Thursday at the Gamstar House in Banjul to discuss matters gear towards the successful organisation of this year’s championships.
During the meeting, the committee dwelled on range of pertinent issues, including the increment of number of companie, from twenty-four to a maximum of thirty-two and the review of the rules and regulations dictating the organisation of the championships.
Speaking at the gathering, Saikou B Jarju, Secretary General of NISA, said invitations have been extended to fifty companies for this year’s tournament which will mark the sixth edition. He added that a good number them (the companies) have shown their interest to participate.
He said due to increasing number of institutions in the country, the organising committee deems it necessary to expand the number of participations in a bid to satisfy all interested institutions.
Jarju urged companies who want to take part in this year’s tourney to start registering with the organisers so as to avoid a delay in the start of the tournament.
The Inter-departmental Sport Association which is currently headed by Majoy General Langtombong Tamba, was formed in 2002 with the ultimate aim of bringing Gambian work force together through the medium sports.
The Gambia Civil Aviation Authority were crowned last year’s champions after defeating NAWEC in a post match spot-kick in a well attended final at the Independence Stadium.
