Jatto Ceesay Sued for D2.5m

Renowned Gambian international footballer and captain of the senior national team, Jatto Ceesay, has been sued by the Arab Gambia Islamic Bank Ltd. The matter was mentioned on Wednesday before Justice Ota of the Banjul High Court.

The plaintiff, Arab Gambia Islamic Bank Ltd, is seeking the recovery of the sum of 2,591,645.27 being monies due to the plaintiff and cost of D45,000.00 being legal expenses incurred by the plaintiff in the process of instituting the action. The claim further stated that an order for the judicial sale of the property mortgaged to the plaintiff is contained in mortgage deed of serial registration no. 21/2005 vol. 22 pm, which also states that the plaintiff be given conduct of the sale and such other orders as the court may deem fit to make.

According to the statement of the claim, the defendant applied for financing from the plaintiff amounting to D2,014,110 for the purchase of merchandise and it was to be paid under the terms of the agreement. He was said to be guaranteed by Njoba Sankareh of the Central Bank of the Gambia, Ecowas Avenue, Banjul.
