Briton arrested over scam - Two accomplices on the run

Officers of the Gambia Police Force (GPF), on Saturday, arrested David Paul Barret, a British national, in connection with an alleged scam involving the sale of a vehicle.

Two other suspects, identified as David Bance and David Pick, both British, have reportedly fled the country, leaving no traces of their whereabouts.

Two of the three Davids, who are on the run, are also wanted by the state security for entering into the country through the border as part of a batch of motorists who arrived in the country under the banner of the Plymouth-Banjul Challenge, a fund-raising charity in The Gambia.

Police investigations revealed that the trio sold the vehicles individually, kept the proceeds for themselves, and decided to leave the country, which defeats the objective of the charity, which is to use the proceeds to fund local projects. However, David Paul Barret ran out of luck and was apprehended by the police.

Mr Barret was said to have sold his vehicle at the tune of D25,000.

Confirming this incident in an interview with the Daily Observer, Inspector Sulayman Secka, Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the arrest of Mr Barret, noting that he is currently under police custody helping them in the investigation of the fraud. He disclosed that the suspect will be tried before a competent court at the end of the investigations.
