Three Counterfeit Suspects in Police net

The police on Monday, 24th December, arrested three men for their reported engagement in counterfeit activities, seizing thousands of fake currency bills from them.

Charles Lawson, Amadou Watara and Ebrima Danso, Nigerian, Guinuean and Gambian respectively, were raided by the police who found some counterfeit notes with them.

They were found in possession of 242 notes of the D50 denomination, one D100 note and CFA 210,000, a printer and some liquid.

13 notes of D50, which were by that time in circulation, were also retrieved.

The three were on Saturday paraded at a press briefing at the police headquarters in Banjul.

Speaking at the press briefing, the police Crime Management Coordinator (CMC), Commissioner Burama Dibba, revealed that Charles Lawson was the ring leader and is assisted by Amadou Wattara while Ebrima Danso is the one responsible for ‘pushing’ the fake money into the market.

For his part, the Inspector General of Police, Benedict Jammed, used the occasion to thank the people who came up with the information that led to the arrest of the suspects. He encouraged the public to work with the police by giving information, and assured that the police would never ever disclose their informants.

“What I can tell the Gambian people at large is that if you are involved in any crime whatsoever, be hundred per cent sure that our net is getting closer and closer and it is just a matter of time, but we will get you,” he warned.
