The Gambia National Squad better known as Scorpions, made of local players, on Monday were held to a 1-1 draw by Brikama Selection as part of their preparation for the crucial Nations Cup bout against Desert Warriors of Algeria on Sunday September 9, 2007 in Banjul.

Pa Modou Jagne of the U-20 opened the scores in the 20th minute on a penalty kick in front of thousands of spectators that stormed the Box Bar Mini Stadium in Brikama.

But their lead was short lived then Ousainou Bojang netted the equalising for Brikama Selection in the 41st minute.

Scorpions fought back in the second half but could not found the back of the nets of Brikama Selection until the end of the game.

Speaking to Pointsport after the game, Lamin Sarr, the assistant coach of the Scorpions expressed satisfaction with the performance of the team.

He reassured the Gambian people that the team would perform as expected come Sunday September 9 against Algeria.

Coach Sarr revealed that 17 foreign-based players have been invited for the most awaited game.

“Am appealing to Gambians to come out in their large number to cheer the boys to victory against Algeria,” he pointed out.

It could be noted that Captain Ebou Sillah and Dawda Bah would not be part of the game due to the two-match suspension they are serving for being red carded against Cape Verde.
