YCF holds All-Children’s end-of-Schools’ Award

Youth Care Foundation of the Gambia, over the weekend held its All-children’s End-of-Schools’ year show celebration and awards of certificates of appreciation to some heads of schools and PTA chairpersons of four Lower Basic Schools in Banjul.

The event, which was meant to raise funds for under-privileged children in Banjul, brought together a cross-section of children across the country.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the Parochial Hall, Hagan Street, Banjul, Mr. Kolapo Abdul, Director of Youth Care Foundation (YCF), The Gambia, said children are the heritage of a nation, and “we must celebrate their growth, talents, development and well-being”. He added that the teachers, over the period, gave the children the opportunity to develop intellectually, physically, morally and socially.

Mr. Kolapo then used the occasion to commend President Jammeh and his government for their untiring efforts in the provision of good education and health care facilities in the country for the children.

Mr. Winston Shingle, deputising for the Mayoress of Banjul, Mam Sai Njie, said that “society and nations vary greatly to a large extent from each other depending on the way and manner they treat their young population. Countries that invest wisely on their viable human resource-base stand up on top.
He further went on to commend the Youth Care Foundation (YCF) for their good initiative.

 Mr. Arthur Jackson also spoke at the occasion. The ceremony was concluded by the presentation of certificates of recognition to heads of some Lower Basic Schools in Banjul and a cultural performance by the school children in different traditional attires.
