YWAWTCL Poised to End Child Labour, Women Trafficking

Members of Young Women Against Women Trafficking and Child Labour (YWAGTCL) last Friday took part in a march past that started from Primet Street in Banjul to the Gambia Police Force Headquarters where they presented documents to the deputy IGP before proceeding to Immigration Department to present similar documents.

The march past was organized in a bid to raise public awareness on the legal implications of child labour and women trafficking.

In a brief speech at the Police Headquarters, the Director of the organization, Mrs. Mam Jarra Nyassi, said YWAWTCL is an association of diverse and inclusive grassroots movement dedicated to organizing women in their 20s and 30s to take actions on issues that affect their lives.

“We are out with the full determination to sensitize the young women and school girls through all forms of medium in the area of women trafficking and child labour,” she posited.

Mrs. Nyassi pointed out that her organization is ready to work in conjunction with the Department of State for the Interior and other NGOs with similar mission for the total eradication of child labour and human trafficking in the Gambia and by extension, the sub-region.

For his part, the Deputy Inspector General of the Gambia Police Force, Alhaji Momodou Gaye, said that the police would work hand in hand with YWAWTCL to combat child labour and women trafficking. He added that they would give YWAWTC all the necessary support to ensure the realisation of their noble objectives.
