Abdoulie Kujabi, Foday Barry Released

Messrs Abdoulie Kujabi, former Director General of National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Foday Barry, former Director of Internal Service of NIA, were yesterday released from Mile 2 Prisons, dependable sources disclosed to this paper. The two had been in detention since their arrest in connection with the March 21st 2006 abortive coup.

The other 10 security officers and three civilians found guilty of involvement in the abortive coup have since been jailed. Captain Yaya Darboe, Captain Wassa Camara and second Lt. Pharing Sanyang have begun serving life sentences.

Captain Abdou Rahman Jah, Corporal Samba Bah, Lt. Modou Alieu Bah were each jailed for 25 years while Captain Pierre Mendy, Lance Corporal Babou Jah, Private Alagie Nying were jailed for 10 years each.
The three civilians comprising Tamsir Jasseh, Alieu Jobe and Omar Faal Keita have each been jailed for 20 years, while Demba Dem was acquitted and discharged.

On July 8th 2007, five security officers including the late Lt. Colonel Vincent Jatta, Ngorr Secka, former deputy Director of NIA; Baba Saho, former Director of External Affairs of NIA; Ebrima Camara, former Commissioner of Police Western Division and Sgt. Buba Mendy, were released.
