Takaful top brass meet VP, CB Deputy Governor

In anticipation of their start of operations in the country, the management of Takaful Gambia Limited, accompanied by a team of consultants from Malaysia, on Wednesday, paid a courtesy call on the Vice President, Dr Ajatou Isatou Njie-Saidy at State House and Basiru Njie, deputy governor of the Central Bank of The Gambia.

During the courtesy call at State House, Banjul, Momodou Musa Joof, managing director designate of Takaful Insurance Company, briefed the vice president on the progress made by his company to commence operations in The Gambia. Mr Joof outlined the benefits and growth trends of Takaful worldwide.

Dato Mohd Fadzli Yusof, leader of the Malaysian consultancy team, recalled how he challenged Mr Joof during his studies in Malaysia to put into practice the system of Takaful in The Gambia as it was the subject of his dissertation. He expressed delight at being associated with the introduction of Takaful in the country.

Speaking to the visiting delegation at his office, Basiru Njie, the deputy governor of the Central of the Gambia expressed confidence in the successful implementation of Takaful in the country. He informed the visitors that the Central Bank has introduced an Islamic treasury bill call Sukuk,which provides for Islamic banks and insurance companies to participate in treasury bills.

Deputy Governor Njie then expressed optimism that the training on Islamic insurance presently being conducted by Takaful Insurance company at the Corinthia  Atlantic Hotel would greatly benefit the Central Bank staff.
