Gambia Celebrates Eid – al - Fitr

Muslims in The Gambia on Saturday joined Muslims elsewhere in celebrating the feast of Eid-al-Fitr. In observance of the occasion, the Imam Ratib of Banjul, Alhagi Cherno Kah, delivered a sermon after the prayers attended by thousands of worshippers at the King Fahad prayer grounds in Banjul. The Imam thanked Allah for bringing the month of Ramadan to a peaceful end and granting the faithful the ability and means to execute the rites.

He also commended President Jammeh, the business community, both Lebanese and Gambian, for their assistance to the needy during the holy month.

The Imam then reiterated the importance of the rite of Zakat-ul-Fitr, the charity recommended for all to give out to the poor and the needy before the Eid prayers on the day. He said that Zakat-ul-Fitr could be made from various consumables starting from three days before or latest in the morning before the prayers.

Imam Kah further enjoined Muslims to continue performing good deeds by respecting each other, loving each other and always have good intentions towards our beloved nation and its people. He advised people to be steadfast in helping and forgiving each other, as well as forgetting grievances or wrongs done to them. He also stressed the need for Muslims to cultivate the habit of hard work in unity for the development of the nation especially the youths, on whom he urged obedience to parents and elders.

He congratulated the Imams, preachers, Supreme Islamic Council, Banjul Muslim Elders for their commitment to Islam.

Islam, according to the Imam, is a religion which promotes peace and understanding. He said “And as Muslims, we should advocate that aspect.”

He finally prayed for peace and prosperity for the president Dr. Alhagie Yahya Jammeh, all people living in The Gambia.
