Yusupha Sanyang is New KMC Deputy Mayor

Mr. Yusupha Sanyang, Councillor of Bakoteh Ward, was on Wednesday elected as the new deputy mayor of KMC.  Mr. Sanyang replaced Mr. Yankuba Colley who has been recently elevated to the position of acting Mayor of KMC.

Mr. Sanyang’s assumption of the position was the outcome of an election conducted mid last week by councilors of the Kanifing Municipal Council.   Three councilors have thrown their hats in the ring.    In the election contested by Ousman Fatty, Councillor for Latrikunda Sabiji Ward, and Modou Lamin Badjie of Ebo Town Ward, Mr Sanyang secured 8 votes whilst councilor Fatty got 7 and councilor Badjie one.

In an interview with this paper shortly after his election, Mr. Sanyang expressed satisfaction for the trust and confidence reposed in him, adding that he will do his utmost to deliver.

He promised that the issue of cleanliness of the municipality would uppermost on his agenda. 

Mr. Sanyang further stated that the Council would strive to ensure the provision of potable water to the people of the municipality.

“We will collaborate with the Gambia Roads Authority in order to have good road network in KMC,” he noted.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sanyang was born in 1968 in Bakoteh. He was elected councilor in the 2002 local government elections.  From 1985 to 1987, he attended vocational training centre and obtained a certificate in welding and fabrication.

He also did basic engineering City and Guilds course.

Mr. Sanyang bagged diploma in law at GTTI in 1998. He also obtained a certificate in legal studies from the Institute of Legal Executives in Bedford in the UK. He is currently a third year student at the University of the Gambia studying international development and management.
