NRA embarks on drainage works in Bakau

Friday, July 11, 2008
In order to maintain a good drainage system, the National Road Authority, on Tuesday, embarked on the digging of underground shallow ditches in Bakau New Town near the Independence Stadium.

Fafa Bayo, senior road suprintendent officer, said that the importance of the execise is to facilitate an artificial underground drainage system that would assist the overflooding of water during the rainy season.  He revealed that drainage is necessary in order to remove the gravitational water so as to create a favourable condition for the people in the area.  He urged dwellers to desist from littering the shallow drains as this may stop drainage and can cause extreme flooding.

Relating to the exercise, the dwellers of the area outlined some of the constraints they faced during the previous rainy season, which would now be minimized.  They also promised to keep the ditches clean and commended NRA for the indispensible task they have rendered.
