FAWEGAM holds fund raising with Jaliba Kuyateh

The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWEGAM), on Wednesday evening held a grand fund raising activity with the famous and indomitable king of kora, Jaliba Kuyateh and the Kumareh Band, at the Bakau Lower Basic School grounds.

Speaking to the Daily Observer, Yadicon Njie-Eribo, Coordinator of FAWEGAM said the purpose of the fund raising is to enable them raise funds for the construction of their multipurpose skills centre, located just behind the Independence Stadium.

The FAWEGAM coordinator told the Daily Observer that their mandate is to support women and girls education.

“we realised that women and girls are left behind, and we believed that by educating them, they will be empowered and it will also help to reduce poverty”, she noted.

“This fund raising event is not only meant for the construction of our multipurpose centre but it will also help us to support girls’ education up to tertiary level. FAWEGAM has offered scholarship to 800 girls through the USAID, Ambassador for girls sponsorship programme (AGSP) through the United States Embassy” , she  revealed.

The FAWEGAM Coordinator further revealed that her organisation has sponsored 100 boys in Western Region and also through the FAWEGAM bursery award, they  have offered scholarship to 20 girls in the Senior Secondary Schools  in Region One  

For her part,  Isatou Joof - Gagigo, public relations officer of FAWEGAM, said the multipurpose centre, when completed, will have a life skills training centre for girls, hostel for the accommodation of girls and women , especially during their national seminars and workshops, a secretariat for FAWEGAM, among others.

She called on the NGOs, philanthropists, government, private individuals, etc, to support FAWEGAM for the empowerment of girls and women in the country.
