AMMREN To Be Launch

The country Coordinator of Africa Media Malaria Research Network (AMMREN) who also doubles as the President of the Association of Health Journalists (AOHJ) Pa Modou Faal reliably informed Media Agenda’s Current Affairs that, the Gambia chapter of AMMREN would be officially launched on Tuesday the 13 November 2007.

AMMREN Patron Alhagie Sir, Dawda Kairaba Jawara former President of the Gambia , will grace the launching. Sir Dawda was nominated at the AMMREN meeting held in Kenya in April of this year. It was at the same meeting that AMMREN was officially launched.

This continental network of scientists and media workers was conceived last year in Ghana Accra, where the head office is. The objective of the network is to bring closer collaboration between the journalists and scientists in fighting the malaria disease. Malaria is a leading killer disease on the continent. The most vulnerable people affected are the pregnant women and children under five years.

In this launching ceremony, which came as one of the recommendations at the Kenya , meeting, will be attended by a representative from Ghana .   Dr. Tumani Cora of the Medical and Research Council (MRC) of the Gambia will also make a statement. The Gambian Minister of heath will deliver the launching statement.

The network is a composition of nine countries, and they are, The Gambia, Senegal , Malawi , Nigeria , Ghana , Mozambique , Tanzania , Kenya , and Gabon .
