Alhajie Banding Drammeh, the president of the Supreme Islamic Council (SIC), has confirmed to this paper that the 10th day of the Muslim new year, Yawmul Ashura, will fall on Monday, January 29, 2007.
He said in accordance with tradition the eve of Ashura, locally known as Tamxarit, would be dedicated to prayers and the following day, Tuesday, January 30th, the day of Ashura. Mr Drammeh used the opportunity to pray for peace and tranquility in the country.
He also prayed for mutual understanding and cordial relations between Muslims and Christians in the country, saying both Christians and Muslims should love each other to foster cordial relations.
The SIC president also congratulated Muslims in advance on the occasion, wishing them prosperity, good health and long life.
