Pa Malick Ceesay, executive secretary of the National Youth Council
“We hope to attain a more productive and vibrant youth population in 2009. But first young people need to change their behaviours towards their own development.

As part of my 2009 resolutions, I am hope to strengthen the capacity of the Council Secretariat  and ensure that the 2008 NAYCONF resolutions are implemented. I am calling on young people to desist from venturing into the high seas with the hope of going to Europe.”

Lamin F Bojang, Speaker of the National Youth Parliament
“I hope that there will be positive attitudinal change, and that the youth will always be willing to be role models and inspire others. I also hope that people will be willing to sacrifice and work hard for the betterment of our society.”

Bakary Badjie, Youth chairperson, KMYC
“I wish a happy New Year to all the young people of this country. I hope that 2009 will be a turning point for Gambian youths in terms of development. I also wish to express hope that the youth of this country will participate more in nation building.

I would like to use this opportunity to call on organisations that are supporting youth activities to increase their support. I hope that the youth of this country will do away with the back-way syndrome and try to work and earn better living in The Gambia”.

Lamin J Gassama, vice chairperson, Western Region Youth Committee
“We must work towards ensuring a more active youth population in the country, which would be keen in enhancing national development.

This will not be possible in the absence of the young people’s participation. They should take the lead, which of course depends greatly on the environment, in a sense. Young people should be encouraged more in 2009 since most of the services they render are based on voluntarism”.
