UEPA to Observe 10th Anniversary of Convocation

February 16th 1999 under the auspices of Saint Mary’s University Extension Programme (SMUEP) the first ever convocation to confer university degrees took place in The Gambia, when 63 graduates were awarded Bachelors degrees in a wide range of courses.

As part of the programme, the alumni of the University of The Gambia have form an organising committee whose task amongst others will include raising funds the proceeds of which will be donated towards educational and other worthy cause in The Gambia. “On the historic day, the committee cannot but express profound gratitude on behalf of the entire alumni, to His Excellency, the President for his vision in bringing university education, for the first time in the history of theGambian.

“Our heartfelt gratitude also goes to the entire government and the people of The Gambia for the support and encouragement that saw through what was then seen as “Jaangi Jolof”. A similar level of appreciation is also extended to the St. Mary’s University (Canada) and Nova Scotia Gambia Association,” the release stated.
