TOP CLASS: Scanaid celbrates 15 years of existence

Scanaid Nursery, Primary, and Senior Secondary School in partnership with its donors, Scanaid Organisation in Norway, last Thursday celebrated its 15 years of existence, at a ceremony held at the school premises in Brufut.

The three-day celebration was observed in a form of a football match, march pass as well as the formal opening ceremony of the 15th anniversary.
Lamin K Camara, cluster monitor, deputizing the director of Region 2, recalled that when the department of state for Basic and Secondary Education (DoBSE) gave approval for the establishment of a senior secondary school by Scanaid in Brufut, the department told the organisation that it is hoped that in future they will also establish a Nursery, Primary and Upper Basic School for the community. In fulfilment of that request, he said, the organisation instructed that Scanaid should opt for other levels.

“As the cluster monitor for the area, I also feel very proud to be associated with this occasion, I would however like to appeal to all stakeholders, namely; donors, parents, staff and the community to collaborate and work together in partnership with each other for the betterment and progress of your association with scanaid and forget about your individual differences in the interest of our children” he urged.

Mr Camara added that, Scanaid has set goals and targets, which cannot be achieved without the co-operation of all stakeholders. Speaking at the ceremony, Mariama Baldeh, the principal of Scanaid Senior Secondary School (SSSS) said that 15 years is not 15 days or 15 months, noting that these are years of strive and hard work, through which they struggled hard to built schools ranging from the nursery to the senior school.

According to her, Scanaid Organisation has done a lot for children in The Gambia, especially the children of Brufut. “Scanaid, has provided education at all levels, from Nursery to Tertiary institution, medical facilities for both staff and students, feeding programmes and sponsorship”, she disclosed.

Principal Baldeh, further thanked Erna and Knut Eng, the chief donors, as their good gestures will remain evergreen in their memories. “To Joegen Bredesen, Anfine and Dr Lenrie Peters, the propellers of the laudable projects in The Gambia, we owe you millions of thanks and to all the sponsors, we say, to every cheerful giver, there is heavenly reward,” as quoted in the Holy books,” she expressed delight.

For her part, Terema Njie-Sanneh, headmistress of Scanaid Nursery School, also thanked the donors for the benevolent gesture.
Forger Berdesen, the chairman of Scanaid Organisation in Norway said that Scanaid is among the best schools in The Gambia and that, every year, people observe huge improvement in the development of the school and the performance the students.
