Three youths alleged to have attempted to commit robbery, were on 27th September 2009, arrested in Brikama Western Region.
The accused Saikou Gaye, Daba Joof and Yankuba Jatta, were arraigned on Tuesday 29th September 2009, at the Brikama Magistrates’ Court and charged with conspiracy to commit felony and attempted robbery.
According to the statement of offence, on or about 27th September 2009, at Duruma Kolong in the Brikama Western Region, the accused persons conspired to commit felony to wit robbery.
Count two states that, on the same day and place, the accused persons alleged to have attempted to rob one Mr. Landing Jammeh with intent to steal from him by using threatening or actual violence to get his wallet.
All the accused persons pleaded not guilty.
At that juncture, Police Prosecutor Cadet ASP Samateh applied for the accused not to be granted bail in the sense that the offence, which the accused persons had committed is a serious one. He said if the accused persons are granted bail, they may abscond.
He also told the court that “the place where the alleged offence was committed is full of crime”.
However, the application was overruled and the accused were granted bail with the sum of D20, 000 each, with one Gambian surety who must be residing within the jurisdiction.
The case was adjourned to 8th October 2009.
