SoS Sambou presides over KMC YFC anniversary celebration

The secretary of state for Local Government and Lands, Ismaila Sambou, last Friday presided over the 9th anniversary celebrations of the KMC Youth Fans Club, at a colourful ceremony held at the KMC grounds in Kanifing.
 
The primary aim of the club is to bring youths of the municipality together to contribute their quota to the socio-political advancement of the Kanifing municipality. In his keynote address, SoS Sambou noted with delight the fact that the KMC Youth Fans Club has registered much success. He described the fans club as being in line with the national youth policy and the desire of President Jammeh to create an enabling environment where the youths of this country can engage themselves and excel in all sectors of the economy.

According to SoS Sambou, the youths constitute the cream of the population. He therefore urged them to be ready to participate in national development. He noted that in addition to enhancing the political plurality of the government, the fans club is engaged in a host of development initiatives with partners such as NEA and the Department of Community Development. He commended the members for their achievements and the KMC for their support of the club since its inception.

For his part, Pierre Minteh, the president of the fans club, described it as one of the few  youth organisations in the KMC that dedicate themselves to educating people. He lauded the fans club’s support of the government.  "The fans club has been very active during the previous Operation Clean the Nation,” he said, thanking PURA, Gamtel, NEA and KMC for their unflinching support to them. He also thanked President Jammeh for providing the enabling environment for the youths of this country and advised the youths to distance themselves from any criminal act and join the president in his quest to develop the country.

Yankuba Colley, the mayor of the Kanifing Municipal Council, described the anniversary as a great moment. He said the youths are the future leaders of this nation and that preparing them, is preparing for the future. He thanked the KMC Youth Fans Club for their contribution to the socio-economic development of the council. He advised them to continue the hard work and assured them of the council’s continued support.

For her part, Fatou Lamin Faye, the secretary of state for Basic and Secondary Education, congratulated the youth fans club for joining the president in his development drive. She noted that the fans club is very much committed and dedicated to the development of the municipality, noting that the country can only be developed through the effective participation of the youths. She also advised them to be ready to face challenges as life is full of challenges, and urged them to be united.  

Momodou B Sarr, executive director of the NEA, and the Gamtel PRO, Amadou Touray, all thanked the fans club members for their partnership with their respective institutions and assured them of their continued collaboration and support. Certificates were awarded to deserving people and those who have been supportive of the fans club.
