The Association of Social Workers in the Gambia (TASWIG), on Saturday 13 June 2009, held a one-day seminar on ‘social workers as agents of changes in society’, held at GOVI’s conference hall in Kanifing.
TASWIG is an association responsible for promoting social change, problem- solving in human relationships and the empowerment and liberation of people so as to enhance their well-being.

For his part, Halifa Sallah, the Director of Peoples Centre, who was a resource person at the seminar said “social workers started to emerge in different ways but basically started with human beings”.
He said a social worker could be sorted of services for the people either educating them, or addressing the human elements.
He added that as a social worker, one needs to be competent enough to make changes as an agent in the society.
“As a social worker you need to do a lot of research in your society, through that you can make changes in your society”, he added.
