Sizzla Kalonji,others back to the roots

The term culture is the arts and other manifestation of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively.

Therefore, the visit of the top flight Jamaican artists led by Sizzla Kalonji,is a real manifestation of value people all over the world attached to the importance of traditional cultural norms and values.

The Jamaican musicians are in the counrty on a cross multi-cultural voyage to what they fondly and love to call “back to the roots” (Africa). The visit is dubed  African musical explosion and it is the first of its kind;  that Sizzla Kalonji,Jesse Jenda and princess Mene as well as music promoters like our own Gambian Omar Bett, otherwise called Betts promotions,Rebel T Music and Kalonji records made to the Gambia.

The somewhat rare musical explosion in the Gambia,has been scheduled to take place in three consecutive days at diffrent prestigious and glamorous entertainment centres namely: Independence Stadium in Bakau on December 25th; at the Brikama mini stadium in the provencial town of western Region (WR) on 27th December and 29th december 2008 back at the said Independence stadium in Bakau.

According to information relayed to the Arts and Culture anchorman,from the organising committee of the programme, the proceeds from the three day musical explosion will “be used for charity works in the Gambia. The proceeds will be used in provision of scholarships to both primary and secondary schools students as well as other levels of education in the Gambia.The relayed information added that, a portion of the proceeds will also be donated to research on development methods geared towards dealing with eradication of malaria.

Malaria is the most singlar killer disease in the horn of Africa.The visit of the Jamaican artists is meant to cement the long outstanding bilateral relationship existing between the republic of the Gambia and Jamaica.The Gambia and Jamaica shared a lot in common,both traditional, cultural and humanity; as well as size and population,” the said relayed dispatch noted.

Sizzla Kalonji
He was born on April 17th 1976 in St Mary and was raised in the community of August Town by devoted rastafarian parents. A brilliant and passionate performer,Sizzla broke boundaries,appealing to those looking for something new in music with indepth. His major breakthrough came with the release in 1997 of the now classic album entitled “Black women and children”.

He scored several more hits in 1997 including like Mountain,Babylon Cowboy, Kings of the earth among others. Sizzla Kalonji has released over 45 impressive solo albums and over fifteen combination albums,crodding different genres of reggae.
 
Omar Betts
Our Gambian brother was born in the Gambia ,passionate keen footballer, a bookworm,educated both in the Gambia and the USA,then proceeded into the world of music leading to the formation of the famous Betts promotions in Jamaica.         
 
Jesse Jenda
He was born in the Southern side of Jamaica. He built interest in the world of music at a very tender age.He uses music to educate masses and to awake the minds and hearts of people.He writes,speaks and teaches people,especially in the horn of Africa.

Princess Menen
She was born in tthe republic of Ghana and brought up in Brooklyn,New York.She is an erudite super star, who developed and built keen interest in music and the world of arts at a very tender age.

Rebel T.Music
Is a promotional team established and began operations in Jamaica in 1997 by Jamaican born brothers called Chin and Doza.Their objectives were to unite people of the world through music.THey organise annual New York Miami Link up Spring Break show in Negril,Jamaica.This programme attracted over thousands of reggae and arts lovers, especially college students.

The music promoters also embarked on series of charitable works in Jamaica through provision of scholarships among others to the less priviledged members of the society.
