Sea View upset Wallidan

Sea View beat Wallidan 1-0 to become the only winners in the day-one matches of the week nine fixture of the Gambia Football Association First Division League yesterday.

Leaders Armed Forces dropped points after a goalless draw against Gamtel at the Father Gough sports complex in Manjai, while Hawks and Bakau United settled for a similar score line at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.  Brikama United were also held to a 2-2 draw by the struggling Tallinding United at the Brikama Mini-stadium.

Lamin Sanyang’s 45th minute strike helped Sea View beat the champions to climb out of the relegation zone. The hard-fought victory, however, cost the hotel club two second half red cards as they finished the game with nine men. Referee Edu Gomez was the most infamous man among the Sea View faithful after his decision to send off defender Sulayman Banda and goalkeeper Badou Ceesay in the 62nd and 90th minutes respectively.

Week Nine fixtures will resume today with Steve Biko taking on Real de Banjul in Brikama, while Samger face Africell-Sait Matty at the Serrekunda East Mini-stadium.
