Resurrection Parish Celebrates Feast Day

The Catholic Church of the Parish of the Resurrection at Brikama, over the weekend celebrated their feast day with thousands of Christians and well-wishers in attendance.

The Parish Priest, Rev. Fr. Tony Gabisi in collaboration with the Resurrection Parish Council worked tooth and nail to spread the news of the celebration.

In his sermon, Rev. Fr. Tony Sonko asked the packed church to repeat the following words after him, “The Lord has risen Alleluia, Alleluia, we are Easter people and Alleluia is our song,” he said. He said the peace within Jesus was what he gave thus saying to His Apostles, Peace be with you.”

He said he was beaten, stoned and made to carry his cross. “It is the inner peace that made him move”, he said. He asked if Jesus were to come now what would they say. “Some would want to demand for riches and to live longer. But on the evening of the resurrection, he did not say to those who were crippled get up and walk, the blind to see but rather said, the sins you forgive are forgiven, those whose sins you retain are retained, receive the Holy Spirit,” he said. He also illustrated his sermon with a story.

Father Sonko challenged some who would not forgive. He said wives would even put pepper in “churaigheteh” in revenge to husbands coming late. Guess many do not go for confession.

“We all have the need to ask for forgiveness, because we are sinners,” he said.

William E. Mendy, a prominent Parish Council member expressed his delight over the organising committee for their hard work. “This group can move mountain”, William said.
