Qcell Observes Night Of Power

africa » gambia
Friday, September 18, 2009

Qcell one of the telecommunication giants in The Gambia’s telecom industry as part of its Ramadan activities on Wednesday observed “Lailatul Kadr”, the night of power by gathering over one hundred renowned Imams in the country, with the aim of supplicating Allah’s blessings as stipulated in the teachings of the Holy books.

The occasion graced by Hon. Ismaila Sambou, the Minister for Local Government and Lands, brought together prominent Islamic scholars like Imam Ratib of Banjul, Allagie Cherno Kah, Imam Momodou Lamin Touray, the President of Gambia Supreme Islamic Council, Imam Gibril Kujabi, Oustass Drammeh, Imam of Latrikunda German, Amir of the Lebanese Community in The Gambia, among others.

In his opening prayers, the Imam Ratib of Banjul, Cherno Kah, said Gambians are proud of young entrepreneurs like Muhammed Jah, who is working for the development of his motherland, The Gambia. Imam Ratib Kah added that seeking prayers and guidance from religious leaders is a step in the right direction.

He said that as a Muslim, “it is incumbent upon us to work hard inorder to earn our living in a decent manner”.

Imam Momodou Lamin Touray, the President of the Gambia Supreme Islamic Council also prayed for the company and made similar comments.

For his part, Muhammed Jah, the Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of Qcell, thanked the imams and religious leaders for honouring their invitation.

According to Jah, Islam teaches one to work and worship Allah, adding that he needed some piece of advice from the elders. He urged young people to work hard in achieving their desired goals.

He said Qcell has great concern and consideration for religion, and thus started its Ramadan package for fast breaking in at least 25 mosques in the Greater Banjul Area.

Qcell boss revealed that they cannot go to all the mosques, that is why they decided to bring together over hundred Imams under one roof, adding that Qcell values the important role religious leaders and imams play in society.

He said their doors are open to all imams.
