Reports monitored on Walf Fadjri daily newspaper (Monday 10th February, 2009) indicated that some former bodyguards of the Senegalese president are on a hunger strike.
Their move is said to have been prompted by a demand they made to have audience with the Senegalese leader. Formerly working as President Wade’s bodyguards, while he was in the opposition, these militants of the Senegalese Democratic Party (PDS) have been, over the years, trying to meet with him, but to no avail.
Through their slogan “To meet Abdoulaye Wade or die”, they are sending a clear signal to the Senegalese head of state that they are firmly resolved to use this alternative. According to Walf Fadjri newspaper, the former bodyguards are ready to die if their demands would not be met. “Most of them are very disappointed about the way they were treated by PDS regime since they came to power on the 19th March 2000,” disclosed the newspaper.
