WORLD LEADERS FELICITATE PRESIDENT JAMMEH

Monday, January 19, 2009
With the festivities surrounding the Tobaski, Christmas and New Year celebrations still fresh in people’s minds, messages of felicitation for the Gambbian leader, Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, continue to reach State House.

The latest to arrive were from the president of the Republic of Burkina Faso, Blaise Compaore; President Omar Hassan Ahmed El Bashir of the Republic of Sudan; and the Right Honourable Michelle Jean, governor general of Canada.

Below we reproduce the full text of the three messages.

President Blaise Campaore, Burkina Faso
On the advent of the Eid Al Adha, I extend my best wishes for good health, happiness and prosperity to Your Excellency and to the government and people of the Gambia.  This feast is a special moment of sharing and of self-abnegation for the citizens of ECOWAS and an opportunity to better cultivate the values of tolerance and fraternity.

I pray that God the Almighty may grant our populations who are on pilgrimage proper reward for their acts of faith and that he hears their prayers for the achievement of lasting peace in our sub-region.  May Prophet Abraham’s example of piety and self-sacrifice inspire us in our daily activities of building a strong West African community.

Please accept, Your Excellency and dear brother, the assurances of my highest and fraternal esteem.

President Omar Hassan Ahmed El Bashir Sudan
I extend my heartfelt congratulations to your excellency on the occasion of the blessed feast of Eid El Adha and pray to Allah the Almighty to bestow his benedictions on the ties that exist between our two countries and promote them for the benefit and prosperity of our two brotherly peoples.

Please accept, Your Excellency and dear brother, the assurances of my highest consideration and fraternal esteem.

Governor General Michelle Jean, Canada
On behalf of my family, I express our joy in sharing, our love in hope and the beauty we see in the world and thereby extend our heartfelt greetings to Your Excellency on the occasion of Christmas and the new year.
