The Gambian leader, Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya Jammeh, last Wednesday, donated a complete set of computer and computer accessories to The Gambia Printing and Publishing Cooperation (GPPC).
The donated materials included HP Compaq, worth D2400; pre-installed software; APC UPS; HP LaserJet; printer and HP scanner; they were handed over to the GPPC, on behalf of President Jammeh, by the Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay, at her office at the Assembly Chambers in Banjul.
The office equipment, worth D65,000, is meant specifically for the GPPC unit responsible for printing of the National Assembly documents such as bills, speeches of President Jammeh and other legal instruments.
Handing over the equipment on behalf of the Gambian leader, Speaker Fatoumatta Jahumpa-Ceesay expressed delight at presenting such equipment to the GPPC on behalf of the president. According to her, the equipment will go a long way in cutting down on delay in the printing National Assembly documents such as bills. "This will help parliamentarians get the required documents, especially bills, so that they can read it well and understand it before proper debates.
So we hope that parliamentarians will not complain now of getting such vital documents late as these equipment will supplement your efforts in ensuring quick preparations," she told the expert at the presentation ceremony. She then described President Jammeh as a leader of foresight who wants to see that all institutions do their work without any hindrance. She stressed the fact that the equipment were for the sole purpose of the legislature and the executive, and no other purpose, expressing hope that they would be used strictly for that.
Fabakary Tombong Jatta, Majority leader and NAM for Serrekunda East, expressed gratitude to the Gambian leader for such a magnanimous gesture. He noted that the equipment would greatly help parliamentarians to receive their required documents on time. He then saluted President Jammeh for his show of love towards Gambians, saying "any problem of national interest, he is ready to ensure that it is solved, all because of his love for Gambians."
Momodou Sanneh, Minority leader and NAM for Kiang West, equally commended President Jammeh for the donation, describing it as yet another great move. He also thanked Speaker Jahumpa-Ceesay for transmitting the message, resulting to such donations to the GPPC and expressed hope that the institution would make best use of the equipment.
Receiving the equipment, Ruth Carrol, production director of the GPPC, on behalf of the institution, expressed sincere thanks to President Jammeh, through Speaker Jahumpa-Ceesay, for the donation. According to her, such donations will go a long way in supplementing their efforts. She assured that the materials will be utilised properly for its intended purpose.
