Peace Is of the Essence

Thursday, August 6, 2009

Since wars begin in the minds of men, it is in the minds of men that the defences of peace must be constructed.

As Woodrow Wilson put it, there is no price which is too great to pay for peace, and that price can be put in one word. One cannot pay the price of self-respect.

Peace, the fundamental for every meaningful development and all economies, should be the prevailing mood of every human-being. Without peace how can man make progress? Without peace how can people live together amicably and in harmony? Without peace how can there be that unity necessary for development?

It is in light of these observations that we give every support to the founder of the Foundation of King Muhammad the sixth (6th) For Peace and Development in The Gambia, Sheikh Sheriff Mamina Hydara, who has said that his foundation is always prepared to work for peace and development in The Gambia, Africa and the world at large.

Sheriff Mamina made this statement in an interview on the occasion marking the celebration of the tenth (l0th) anniversary of the accession to the throne by King Muhammad the 6th of the Kingdom of Morocco.

The Kingdom of Morocco, Sheriff Mamina said, has always played an active role in the area of peace and development, both at local and regional levels and in the international arena. This should not be left to only a few. All and sundry should make sure peace prevails in this world.

King Muhammad the 6th of the Kingdom of Morocco should be given a tap on the back for his efforts in promoting peace and development.

“The kingdom has contributed a lot in the area of infrastructural development in several places in the world”, Sheriff Mamina was quoted to have said. The example demonstrated by Morocco, and also the Sheriff Mamina Foundation, must serve as a guidance to all peace-loving nations and peoples.
