Oxford United FC, Others Through To Semis In Gunjur

Oxford United FC, Commit FC, Late Pa Jobe FC and Nyokoyor FC all advanced to the semi-finals of the ongoing Gunjur Nawettan league championship tournament, after winning their quarter-final encounters recently.
Oxford United FC sailed to the semis, following their narrow 1-0 win over Cathy FC in the forth quarter-final clash.
The keenly-contested game was totally controlled and dominated by Oxford FC who made some serious assaults in front of Cathy FC’s eighteen yard area, while Cathy FC were heavily defending.  
Mamadou Clark Barjo netted Oxford FC’s lone in the 35th minute of the game from a goal mouth scramble. Cathy FC fought back but they were unable to find their rhythm, and thus the first period ended 1-0 in favour of Oxford United FC.
As action resumed in the second period, Cathy FC who were thrilling 1-0 came closer to level the tally in the 65th minute of play when striker Dembo Bojang, alias Mendes missed a clear golden scoring opportunity.
Striker Ousman Badjie, alias Yanka could have doubled Oxford United FC’s lead in the 70th and 75th minute of play, but he squandered all his chances away. Later Cathy FC came back very strong in the dying minute of the game and created some numerous scoring opportunities, but failed to capitalise on their chances, and thus the game ended 1-0 in favour of Oxford United FC.
Late Pa Jobe FC progressed to the semis following their 3-1 victory over Qcell FC in a penalty shoot-out in the other quarter-final game last Saturday 26th September 2009, after 2-2 drew in the regular time of play in the third semi-final game.
Nyokoyor FC booked their ticket to the semis with 4-3 win over defending league and knock-out champions Gamcel FC, after 2-2 drew in the 90th minute of play, while Commit FC also advanced to the semis after edging out Late Ismaila FC 4-2 in a penalty shoot out after 1-1 drew in the normal time of play.
The semi-final is slated for this weekend, on Saturday 3rd October 2009. Late Pa Jobe FC will battle it out with Nyokoyor FC in the first semi-final, while Commit FC will lock horns with Oxford United FC in the second semi-final on Sunday 4th October 2009.
