Observer senior reporter off to Freetown

Musa Ndow, a senior reporter of Daily Observer who also doubles as the first vice president of the Young Journalist Association of The Gambia (YJAG), today Tuesday left Banjul to attend the second regional civil society forum in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Mr Ndow’s trip was facilitated and sponsored by the West African Action Network on Small Arms (WAANSA). WAANSA is a network of journalists on small arms and light weapons in Africa that has its Secretariat in Accra, Ghana.

The two-day meeting will take place in Bintumani Hotel on the 18th and 19th December, it will bring together journalists, representatives of civil society organizations, national networks and coalitions across West Africa, representatives of national commissions, government officials, experts on small arms control and peace building, development partners among others.

Speaking to Daily Observer shortly before his departure, Mr Ndow said the objective of the forum is to review civil society nature and role in combating the proliferation of small arms and light weapons.  He then added that his role during and after the session is to promote the exchange of information, views, experiences and strategies in combating the proliferation of small arms and light weapons in West Africa.

Mr Ndow thanked the Management of Daily Observer under the leadership of Mrs Neneh Macdouall-Gaye and Kemo Cham, acting editor-in-chief and the entire editorial team for allowing him to join his colleagues in Freetown. He expressed hopes that the two-day session will enable him experience international functions as a journalist.
