NYSS Ex-Corp Members Leave to Benin

At least three ex-corp members of the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS), namely Bakary Fofana, Musa Gibba and Madi Touray last Wednesday 3rd June 2009, left Banjul for the Republic of Benin, where they will attend a month-long training session.

Organised by the ECOWAS Commission for Youth and Sports Development Centre of Porto Novo in Benin, the training is expected to bring together 45 youths from the sub-region. It is also expected to commence today Monday 8th June 2009, and run up to 9th July 2009.

The training will concentrate on breeding, food transformation, soap-production and tie-dyeing, management of a farm with an integrated system, fish breeding and elaboration of a business plan.

At the end of the training, each participant is expected to go home, well equipped with the knowledge, and with $600 as grant to boost-up his or her employment endeavours.

Speaking to this reporter shortly before their departure, the team commended the National Youth Service Scheme for its splendid strides in ensuring the development of the human resource base of The Gambia.

“Honestly the National Youth Service Scheme (NYSS) has changed the lives of many of us. It is as a result of the training we got at the NYSS that most of us are capable of being self-employed and doing very well.

Upon returning, we will strive hard to serve our nation by putting the knowledge gained into good use,” they concluded.
