The Speaker of the National Youth Parliament of The Gambia has stressed the need to ensure that the resolutions reached by youth of the country be given ultimate attention.
He pointed out that the biennial National Youth Conference and Festival (NAYCONF) will be a waste of resources unless resolutions that emerged from the conference are implemented.
Hon. Lamin F Bojang Made this statement barely a week after the conclusion of the 8th edition of the youth event held in Farafeni, which brought together over one thousand five hundred delegates across the country and in the sub region. Describing the organization of the event as a significant move towards empowerment and development of the young people, he noted that resources invested were ‘positive investment geared towards capacity building of the youth folk of the country.
But despite the huge investment, projected at five million Dalasi, he argued, the success of NAYCONF can not be judged by how it has being organised, rather, it can only be judged by how effective it impacts on the lives of the young people.
‘The ultimate goal cannot be achieved without implementation of the resolutions that have been adopted by the young people during the conference,’ he reiterated. Having been taken part in the conference since 2001 to date, Bojang remains mindful of the fact that one thing remains common among this year’s event and that of previous years, and that is that ‘conference delegates have ended up been dissatisfied by failure of implementation.
He however had complimentary words for the donors of the event for their generosity and will to support the course of empowerment of the youths. This, he said, makes it a responsibility for the authority in charge on the document that emanated from the week long meeting to ensure that the resolutions reach the required stakeholders and government institutions to enable them integrate the recommendations into their programs and policies.
