The flag of the National Youth Conference and Festival officially left Banjul on Friday for a nation-wide sensitization ahead of the biennial youth gathering scheduled for December in Farafenni, North Bank Region.
According to organizers, the flag is meant to remind the public about NAYCOF 2008. It will arrive at the venue for the event on the eve of the occasion. A delegation headed by the Deputy Lord Mayor of Banjul, Winston Shyngle, accompanied the flag to Denton Bridge, it was handed over to Yankuba Colley, Lord Mayor of Kanifing.
Speaking shortly after the handing over, Deputy Lord Mayor Winston Shyngle expressed his delight to make the trip on behalf of his boss. Mayor Yankuba Colley will in turn hand over the flag to the Western Region on Tuesday.
Speaking earlier, Pa Suwareh Faye, assistant director at the Department of State for Youth and Sports who also doubles as sports coordinator assigned to Kanifing, added that the occasion is a national event.
According to him, it gives youths across the country the opportunity to come together and share ideas and explore means through which they can contribute to the socio-economic development of the country.
Other speakers included Honorable Seedy Njie and Fatoumata Sillah, public relations officer, Kanifing. The occasion was attended by Yai compins, councilors and cross-section of the society.
