Nayconf 2008: Young people’s views

Tuesday, January 6, 2009
During the adoption of the final resolutions of the 2008 biennial national youth conference and festival held in Farafenni, North Bank Region some of the young people have said that only the conference component of the youth gathering is their interest, which they said, was successfully conducted.

However, majority of them have also viewed the organisation of the biennial event as a blessing for the youth fraternity of the country, citing the fact that it is the only possible forum where young people come together to discuss  pertinent issues affecting them. Also, they underscored that the organisation of NAYCONF provide the opportunity for the youth of the country to renew their commitments for national development through integration.

Lamin F Bojang said NAYCONF would be a waste of resources unless resolutions that emerged from the conference are being implemented by those concerned. He however viewed the event as significant towards the empowerment and development of the young people.

Another delegate from the Lower River Region, said the event is a national issue and that resolutions that are drawn from there should be well taken care of, hence they represent the requests of all the young people of the country.

They called on the National Youth Council (NYC) to immediately present the resolutions to the relevant stakeholders, which, they said will enable them to implement majority of the resolutions before the 2010 gathering.

Poem

* To me life does not mean life
* As sometimes there are things we don’t get to decide
* Life to me just doesn’t seem fair
* For there are people out there who just don’t care
* And those people we love get taken away
* And there are people that just want to see your downfall
* It’s amazing how we are born to die
* Yet there are people out there who insist to try
* People told us to live life to full
* Yet we are to apply by all this rules
* Is it true that life is a precious gift
* If that is the case then why do people choose to give their life amiss
* If life means life then I would be happy to stay
* But if it is not
* I can’t live another day
