Nasir Ahmadiyya SSS celebrates Silver Jubilee

Nasir Ahmadiyya Muslim Senior Secondary School last Weekened celebrated its Silver Jubilee at the school grounds in Basse.

This celebration was unique not just for Nasir but the entire people of Upper River Region and its surrounding. The occasion also marked the laying of the foundation stone of a new mosque in Basse. In his keynote address, the guest speaker, Mamadou A. Jallow, the human resource officer at UNDP, spoke at length on the importance of education. He challenged the students to take education seriously.

Mubarak Tahir, the international director of Ahmadiyya schools and hospitals, said the Ahmadiyya Jama’at is not only an NGO but a religious body which has been existing for the past one hundred and twenty years. He confirmed that the Jama’at is operating in over one hundred and ninety-three countries worldwide. He called on people to fulfil their obligations by conducting the five pillars of Islam.

Baba F Trawally, the Amir of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’t in The Gambia, said they have recorded great achievements since the establishment of the institution in The Gambia 25 years ago. Mamadi Ceesay, the principal of Nasir Ahmaddiya Muslim Senior Secondary School said that his school has registered unprecendented success over the years.

According to him, the school, established 25 years ago, began operations with an enrolment of 79 students, four of whom were girls. He said there were only four teachers at that time but despite this, great strides were made to make the school what it is today. According to him, many senior government officials and other public figures occupying responsible positions in the country passed through the school.

He told students to note that the school has the capacity to mould them into useful and productive citizens. He called on them to inculcate a culture of hard work and discipline. Principal Ceesay thanked the Gambian leader, Professor Alhaji Dr Yahya AJJ Jammeh for demonstrating the best leadership qualities and supporting the education sector.
