Certain exigency for decades has not reached the perception of many African leaders. This has been sustainable development through industrialisation and agriculture.
Only few men, among whom President Jammeh is part of, have seen the impact and long term benefit of industrialisation and agrarian economy. His Excellency President Yahya Jammeh an erudite African leader has transcended beyond the level of party politics to break through. He sees Gambia as one nation, one people not divided by politics but as skilled and collective character determined to chart their own development. President Jammeh is not enigmatic but sublimely intelligent.
When in Gambia, one gets this sense of positive change of the mindset of the average Gambian, thanks to His Excellency, who is very tenacious in his outlook. There is this commonality of oneness that runs through the Gambians. President Jameh has restored the dignity of the African. It is clear in that his goal is to give every Gambian and African at large a sense of belonging.
This can be achieved if all African leaders emulate him. He is working tirelessly against poverty, and believes that Africa can rid itself of poverty by engaging in industrialisation backed by agrarian economy. If Africa can adopt his idea, within the next twenty years we will be completely independent of the west. He is of the few leaders in Africa who has seen that the only way Africa can rid itself of poverty is through industrialisation and skilled labour. As His Excellency succinctly put it "No nation can claim to be truly independent if it continues to depend on others to feed it….." How I wish we had a United States of Africa with Jammeh as the president. Africa has the brains, human resources to create its own market and enforce it. If we have five of Yayah Jammeh’s type in Africa, the world will be a blissful place.
The West is not prepared to see Africa develop, no wonder they criticise Jammeh. They traduce his name around the west without proper consultation, but Jammeh has broken away from the western disruptions and moved on without the western support. I would not dwell more on the western criticism as there is this veil of hypocrisy concealed in the western politics when it comes to African issues. It is not new for the west to consider every progress made by Africa as unfortunate. Jammeh’s vision forms his political thought and this explains his extraordinary unpopularity in the west.
Gambia may be a small country, but the values upon which the country’s development depends - honesty dedication, tolerance and patriotism are the force of growth throughout history. According to Obama, ‘a man is remembered for what he built and not what he destroyed’. If any man is to be remembered for what he built, then Jammeh will forever be remembered for his dedication to the rebuilding of The Gambia. You can only criticise Yahya Jammeh for his refusal to compromise laziness, corruption and poverty which basically have set Africa backward for centuries. Without discipline nothing can be done in Africa. President Jammeh’s appeal to The Gambians is that no one is exempted from taking part, only if you failed to deliver then you risk being removed.
He encourages every Gambian to put aside their political differences and work towards the development of Gambia. Jameh’s quest for unity governs his policy on sustainable peace. His brother Ansumana Jammeh a dedicated young man, a man of few words, very courageous and principled young man has seen the vision and is prepared to run with it. It is said that "without vision the people perish."
Jameh has a vision and he believes in his vision. Whether you are a Gambian or from other parts of Africa, you are not seen as a different person; you are welcomed to lend a hand in this quest. Jammeh’s Gambia in the next 20 years to come will be a Gambia without political boundaries. He believes in justice and treats everyone equally; because of his policy on equality and social justice, that every Gambian matters and should have equal access and opportunity to the nation’s wealth.
Jammeh is one leader Africa can trust. It has been surmised that Africa can never rid itself of poverty, this angers Yahya Jammeh, angry about how we have been made to believe that we are poor and inferior and that without the West, Africa will never survive. Many have been used to this nonsense that they make no effort to undertake economic development. This anger drives Jammeh to act; the move to prove the west wrong. This is his political emotion; he is committed to binding the Gambians together and over and above the African nation.
