More Scholarship Opportunities Attainable in Taiwan

The Taiwanese Ministry of Education intends to offer a scholarship for Gambians who are interested in studying Chinese for a period of one year.

According to a media release from the Taiwanese Embassy in Banjul, the scholarship aims, among other things, to encourage international students and individuals to undertake Mandarin study in Taiwan, promote friendship between Taiwan and countries around the world and explore opportunities to increase exchange with international educational institutions.

It further reveals that the duration of the course is one year maximum and successful applicants will receive nearly US$800 as a monthly stipend. However, successful applicants will be responsible for his or her own ticket fee to and from Taiwan.

Eligibility criteria include the possession of an excellent prior record of academic performance and being of good moral character. One must not be a national of the Republic of China (Taiwan) or a current recipient of a scholarship or subsidy offered by any one of the government or educational institutions in Taiwan. High school graduates as well as UTG graduates can also apply.
 Those interested can collect and submit their application forms at the Taiwanese embassy on or before
March 30th 2009.

Huaya Enrichment Scholarship, under the Ministry of Education, intends to offer this scholarship for the first time to Gambians.

This scholarship is also different from the Taiwan ICDF and Diplomatic scholarships being offered by the Taiwanese government.
