Mile II boosted

The Mile 2 State Central Prison recently received a donation from Kumba Jaiteh, a former Face of Africell contestant during a ceremony held at the penal establishment’s premises, located at the outskirts of Banjul.

The donated items included packets of laundry soap, pans, buckets, bags of sugar, boxes of Chinese green tea, and other items.  According to the donor, the philanthropic gesture would not have been possible without the support of Honourable Alderman Philip Murphy of Birmingham City Council. Presenting the items, Kumba Jaiteh said she has always been very concerned about the living conditions of the inmates at Mile 2. She added that the government alone cannot do everything. Consequently, she called for people to complement government’s efforts by supporting the Mile 2 State Central Prison.

David C Colley, director general of Prisons, expressed his delight and gratitude to Kumba Jaiteh and her friend. For his part, Honourable Alderman Philip Murphy of Birmingham City Council described Kumba as the backbone of the initiative. He informed the gathering that plans are underway to send container of books and computers so as to keep the prisoners busy, when he gets back home.
