Methodist Receives Agriculture Boost

The Methodist Academy, renowned for its academic excellence, recently received a good number of garden tools to enhance their school garden for vegetable production in the school.

Friends of Gambian Schools (FROGS) made the donation. Sally Reader, in her presentation speech said, “FROGS started in 1993 and we have helped a lot of schools. We repair school kitchens, provide furniture and more. I am a gardener and we are here to present garden tools to your school.”

Sally Reader invited the children to join them to be part of their garden project. She said, “we have brought Wheelbarrows, watering cans, hose pipes, buckets, hand trowels, rakes, hand rakes and more.”

Reader further said Methodist children will compete for the best garden. “The three best beds will receive educational materials as prizes and others will get certificates. Remember those who grow food will never be hungry,” she said.

Mrs. Hannah Harding, principal of Methodist Academy, said they are particularly excited when they see visitors, blaming some for not bringing their influential parents forward to help. She introduced Astrid Bojang, a member of TropicalGardens and Farms and parent, who made the contact to bring Sally Reader to help the school and, above all, had brought the beautiful flowers in the school. She urged others to emulate her example.

The school’s agriculture teacher said their plots were not big and that they would have two to a bed. He thanked FROGS for their impressive gesture.

Mrs. Harding, their principal, said the materials would be kept under lock and key.

Bintou Jaiteh was optimistic at the prospect of a productive garden season. She said not many go out to help others, “We therefore thank FROGS,” she said.
