‘Maulud Nabi’ observed in Daaru Rewan

africa » gambia
Wednesday, March 11, 2009
Thousands of Muslims from the North Bank Region and satellite villages and from neighbouring Senegal, last Monday converged at the village of Daaru Rewan, Upper Baddibou District, North Bank Region to observe the birth of the Holy Prophet, Mohammed (SAW) locally call ‘Gamo’.

The annual event started with worshippers paying their respects to the family of the late Serign Holy Touray, through the Kaliphate, Alhagie Basuri Touray. Shortly after that, worshippers gathered at the centre of the village were the event was observed with  religious songs, preaching and narration of the life history of Prophet Muhammed (SAW).

Alhagie Basiru Touray, the khaliphate and the son of the late Serign Holy Touray, took the opportunity to remind the Muslims Ummah to be each others’ keepers. According to him, the Prophet, who was born to Aminata and Abdullah in Mecca in 12th Rabia Awal 571, was a man who needs to be cherised as he dedicated all his life to preaching peace.

He also prayed for peace and unity in the country. Immediately after completing his submission, in the wee hours of Tuesday morning, Alhagie Basiru Touray, led the Muslims to perform the Fajr prayers before wrapping-up the commemoration.
