Public health officers in the Central River Region recently embarked on a mass regional inspection in the local shops, food vendors and places where foods are being prepared.

These are frequent routines conducted by the health officials in CRR. Speaking to our Janjangbureh correspondent, the regional health officer, Karamba F. Keita, said the campaign is in line with the Public Health Act saying “in the 1990 Act, all foods prepared must be prepared and sold in a hygienic manner, and the consumption of such foods should not endanger the lives of the consumers”.

He added that in the exercise of the powers vested on them by the Public Health Act, the public health officers are mandated to inspect any premises where food is prepared or sold at any given time.

Musa Camara, another health officer revealed that they want to ensure that all consumers access good and quality food. He then reaffirmed their commitment to remain steadfast in the drive to ensure that the public get access to safe foodstuff. The acting regional public health officer, Jaligeh Nget, called on the business community to comply with the law.
