Man Charged with Setting Fire to Forest Park

Landing Jatta of Bunuborr village recently appeared before Magistrate Jammeh of the Brikama Magistrates’ Court for setting fire to a forest park contrary to section 35 of the Forestry Act, Cap 61 Vol VI laws of The Gambia.

According to the particulars of the offence Landing Jatta the Alkalo of Bunuborr village on the 15th March 2009 between Kanilai and Bunuborr village of Foni Kansala District, set fire to a 7 kilometre forest park thereby committing an offence.

On Count 2, the accused on the same day, month and year, the accused unlawfully, willfully, and maliciously damaged the fence of Bunuborr Forest Park thereby committing an offence.

On Count 3 the accused Landing Jatta on the same date between Kanilai and Bunuborr village, was found in possession of a single barrel gun and two life rounds of cartridges without authority and thereby committed an offence.

When the charge was read to him he pleaded Not Guilty to Count 1 and 2 and pleaded guilty to Count 3.

The accused person was granted bail with two Gambian sureties with the landed property in the Western Region.

The case was adjourned for hearing.
