The Kombo Kerewan’s new mosque was inaugurated on Friday 12th June 2009, at
Over three thousand people from different places in the country gathered in the village to witness the inauguration of the mosque, built by a lady from the
Alhagie Barra Canteh of
Speaking at the ceremony, he dwelt on the essence of purity and its importance. He made special emphasis on the need for unity among Muslims.
Imam added that, “the mosque is only meant for praying, but also to learn your religion, to bring understanding between people and to tie marriages”.
For his part, Alhagie Chreno Darboe, the Imam of Kombo Kerewan mosque and the Assistant Secretary-General for Arabic language at the Supreme Islamic Council and the elders of the village expressed delight at the gesture. He showered blessings on the sponsors and the residents of Kerewan for contributing towards the construction of the mosque.
Mr. Darboe advised the people of Kerewan to make the best use of the mosque and build unity among Muslims as well. He urged Gambians to maintain peace in the country. Several dignitaries including the chiefs and the Alkalolu in the region attended the ceremony.
