At the end of the fourth edition of its annual youth and children empowerment forum, the Kombo East Youth and Children Development Association (KEYCDA), being the coordinating body of all the youth and children’s affairs in the Kombo East District conducted a congress to elect new executive members to over see the association’s activities for a period of two years. Both the forum and the congress will be held at Kafuta Nursery School ground.
Among the mandates bestowed on the new executives are: to co-ordinate and implement meaningful activities for the young people and to unite them under one umbrella for sustainable and socio-economic development.
Amadou Jallow, the first vice chairperson of Kombo East District Youth Committee was elected as the new coordinator while Sally Fofana, social secretary of the same committee was elected as assistant coordinator. Lamin FM Manneh, the former Information, Education and Communication Officer of KEYCDA now hold the position of secretary and is assisted by Taslima Jallow, who is also serving as the social secretary of the district children committee.
Other executive members include; Dembo Kuyateh, Information, Education and Commutation Officer (IEC), Fatou F Darbo, assistant IEC officer, Nuha Nyassi social secretary, Tida Jallow assistant social secretary, Lamin Singateh, financial secretary and Fatou Darboe, auditor. All the executive members were voted through election, which was supported by the constitution of the association.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the forum, Lamin Darboe, the out going coordinator of KEYCDA and the youth and child officer of Kaira Nyining Federation in Kombo East, challenged the new executive to live up to expectation in the execution of the mandates bestowed on them by the young people. He advised them to have the association at heart and to serve as role models to the young people.
Alpha Jallow, program development manager of Kaira Nyining Federation described the event as the beginning of a new era in the annals of development in the district. He told the new executives that their predecessors had paved an easy way for them and that they should also do their best to maintain the good work.
The newly elected coordinator, Amadou Jallow emphasised that unity among the youths of the district as an essential tool for development. He praised the bravery of the out going executives of the association, assuring them that their efforts will never go on unremembered by his executive and the young people of the district.
Alieu Sowe, member of the association challenged the executive members to work extra hard in the implementation of meaningful developments for the youth and children of the district.
The adviser of the association, Lamin Bojang, who also doubles as the secretary of Kombo East District Sport Association (KEDSA), re-assured the new executives of the cooperation from the young people.
Other speakers at the closing ceremony included Alasana Jarju, Chairperson of KEDSA, Fatou Gassama, and Chairperson of the District Youth Association and Nuha Nyassi, the newly elected social secretary of the association.
