Jaliba Kuyateh’s Two Albums Launched

africa » gambia
Friday, June 05, 2009

Jaliba Kuyateh and his Kumareh band last Saturday launched their double albums entitled Sosolaso and Sabarla respectively.

The colourful launching was held at the Paradise Suites Hotel where thousands of people within the country and the sub-region attended.

Speaking shortly after the official launching by the UNICEF Country Representative, Ms. Min Whee Kan, Jaliba Kuyateh thanked the UNICEF Representative for choosing him as ‘Goodwill Ambassador’. He also thanked the main sponsor of the launching, Gamcel, the national GSM operator. Jaliba went on to thank President Jammeh and all those who in one way or the other contributed towards the programme.

In a related development, a presentation of Jaliba’s albums took place at Gamcel Head office yesterday.

At the ceremony cheques amounting to D411, 000 were disbursed to various institutions and departments in the country.

In receiving the cassettes, Mr. Almami Kassama, Gamcel’s Director of Customer Service said he feels delighted and honoured to receive on behalf of Gamcel these cassettes and CDs from Jaliba and his band. He said Gamcel sponsored the project. “Jali has recognized our support and contributions by dedicating a very special and indeed one of the finest songs in the album to Gamcel,” he said.

“We are so proud and we want to thank Jaliba Kuyateh and the Kumareh band for this wonderful gesture. We are the national operator in the GSM arena and it is incumbent on every Gambian to support and patronise Gamcel,” he added.

The Gamcel Customer Service Director explained that the profit Gamcel makes as a business comes from the people and it is therefore only fair and fitting that  they contribute towards the general wellbeing of the society.Gamcel since inception sponsored a whole lot of development initiatives ranging from student schorlarships, medical facilities, hajj packages to music and culture.

In the arts and entertainment field, Mr. Kassama revealed that Gamcel have made great strides in the promotion of Gambian music. “We are strongly connected to Nancy Nanz and supportive to her musical career. The same goes for Yusupha Ngum (Jollof Man), Sambou Suso and the last year much talked –about chartbuster musical talent competition at which ‘Magnificient Joe’ was crowned Gamcel Chartbuster 2008,” Mr. Kassama added.

“Jaliba is our own just as Gamcel is our own. So Gamcel and Jaliba are all Yaay Borom. Gamcel is very happy to be associated with Jaliba and his work and just as Jali is Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF, I am happy to announce that today we honor and adopt Jaliba Kuyateh as Goodwill Ambassador for Gamcel.

Speaking after the handing over of the cassettes to the Gamcel management, Jaliba Kuyateh thanked the management of Gamcel for sponsoring the launching of his albums. The Gambian International artist said that in the absent of this gesture, this would have not been produced at all.

“In Cassette production, we normally gained a lots of expenditures,” he remarked.  Jaliba added that by looking at the whole expenditures, Gamcel has gone three quarter of funding the production.
