In his welcoming statement, Rev. Fr. Edu Gomez, the Cathedral administrator, said their relationship with their Muslim brothers is that of love hoping that this will continue in the years to come, citing the proposed religious committee will occasionally sit to address important issues affecting the lives of the citizenry.

In his speech, Imam Ratib Cherno Alieu Mass Kah said they are thankful for the peace that exists in the country. “We are grateful to the religious leaders for bringing the people of this beautiful country together. The link forged by the leadership of the two religions has spilled over to their followers. It is a special gift from Allah and we pray for its continuation. It is only through religion that peace can prevail and through it, we can get religious tolerance and love for one another. “Religion transcends all bounds and instills discipline among people”, he said. He also registered his special gratitude to Bishop Ellison for initiating the visit. “We also register our gratitude to President Jammeh for always preaching peace”, he added.

“The Gambia, he said, “will continue to serve as an example to the world for the practice of religious tolerance”.
