How to enhance your self value

Life is a race. Unfortunately, many are ignorant of this truth and so live their lives very carelessly. They make themselves spectators and observers of those in the race.

They are like fans in a football match, who know all about the players, and can make all manner of analysis, but who do not get any prize at the end of the match. Anybody can be a success in life, but there are ways to it. In this piece, I want to share my opinion with you on how to make the most of life as an active participant in the race of life.

Find your place

You are not needed in every place. In the race of life, there is where everyone is best designed and suited for. You can’t be a star in football, and be a star in boxing and wrestling at the same time. Jack of all trade is always a master of none, so you must first identify your placement in the race of life.

Success in any area of life begins with knowing where you are going. If you lack idea of where you are going, every place will undoubtedly look like it. If you don’t know where you are going, people will take you to where they are going!

All wonder-men in life are men of one thing. All front liners and high fliers are men of one thing. It takes madness to desire a place in every race. One dream is enough to establish a boom in your life and destiny. Don’t forget, every dreamless sleep is death! If you are living without a dream, you are reckoned with as dead, yet living.

Gather Information

It is not enough to identify your race; every race has its attendant demands. Humbly ask yourself, what does it take to be in this race? For every race, there are vital and relevant information that guarantees success.

So, information, whether spiritual or secular are the wheels on which every accomplishment rides. You never gain speed in any venture you lack vital information about. Information enlarges the capacity of the mind, and hence the quality of your results.

One proven avenue of information acquisition is reading. There is an account of a man called Benjamin Franklin. He had only two years of formal education before he branded off to become a printing apprentice.  He spent the money for his feeding on books, and thus read himself to great heights.

He taught himself how to read, and became one of America’s greatest philosophers.Benjamin Franklin successfully founded a university and built a specialist hospital. He single-handedly negotiated the French Government’s support for the America Revolution which enabled America gain independence from Britain.

I don’t care what your dream or vision is. If you lack relevant information that monitors its accomplishment, you’ll end up a misfit in it. Added knowledge is added value; and added value is added fortune.

Inequalities in life are a function of knowledge differential. If your mental faculty is starved of information, it begins to disintegrate and malfunction. So, make a choice for information now.

Train yourself

What you have underdeveloped in you has no value; and no one else either wishes or has time to develop it. It is strictly your business. The training is all done by you. The future of any dream remains bleak without one possessing the necessary training to make it work. What training does is to leave in the trained traits of excellence and character that makes for the overall accomplishment of the task.

Alexander Kroll had a dream of becoming a footballer, but was not built for the game. He however determined to be one. He would wake up at night to build up his muscles by training on his weight lifting equipment.

He would be there from 2.30am until 4am developing his muscles to make his dream a reality. He did this for months, until his muscles were developed well enough, and he was given a place in his dream team.

What I mean by training is establishing a developmental programme towards the accomplishment of your dream. There are two forms of training – the formal and informal. Formal training is the one received from an educational institution, whereas informal training tends towards personal development.

My emphasis here is on personal training or development, which is the most effective form of training. While formal training sets the pace for development, personal training delivers the goods. Unfortunately, today, there are many schooled people who, however are not trained.

There is no substitute for personal training; it is the most effective training programme. There is another account of a man who had no college degrees, but now teaches professors. His name is Anthony Robins. There is yet another person, who through personal development has become an outstanding success.

He is Richard Branson, the emperor of the Virgin Empire, a conglomerate. He was a school drop-out, who started his journey as a newspaper vendor and developed the art of reading. He was once listed as the 11th wealthiest British. He owns an airline, a soft drink company, a music industry, among many other companies. About twenty of his managers are millionaires.

Personal training can create a new world for anyone. All the things that keep life going require your personal involvement. The talent in you needs a push and determination to make them worth money. Put your whole self into life.

Study; drive yourself until the best in you comes out. Don’t be satisfied with anything you do. What is on your inside has a commercial value, so, always seek to improve yourself.

Start moving

The essence of both time and energy investment in personal training is to place you on the track of the race of life. The journey of a thousand miles begins with a step. Take a conscious step to be in the race you are set for.

Until you get into action, you are merely a fan of your dream – never expect to win a prize. Fans are always known for fun; only players win the prize. Every dream not pursued is bound to die. When vision lacks action it ends in frustration.

Note that in the pursuit of any dream, many things will rise up to make you stop, but you must keep moving. There is a physical law that says, "To every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction." Every vision speaks at the end. You may look like a fool at the beginning, but as you stay on to the end, you will end up victorious.

The stories of most stars have miserable beginnings, but at the end, it changes to a glorious one. Opportunities to faint or give up while pursuing your dream abound. But if you are not prepared to resist failure, you will fail and destroy the dream. It takes the force of perseverance to see the accomplishment of your dream.

Abraham Lincoln, the 16th American president, is an example of one who persevered in the pursuit of his dream. He lost many times until he was elected president of America in 1861. It therefore takes perseverance to arrive at the point of eminence.
